Can you imagine a day in the life of one of your customers? Maybe. Likely you would apply some of your own experience and bias to map steps through the things that you "think" they want.
But what if we could use a repeatable process to help us find those opportunities? A Day of Light is the genesis of just such a process that, while not perfect, I believe can pull back the veil of our conscience adaptations and help reveal those overlooked opportunities.
Many refined engineering processes can achieve a successful result once you have a well-thought-out concept and a way to communicate it. What is usually missing is a repeatable process to blend creativity and user research into a well-defined concept and product requirements. A well-defined process can also be the foundational architecture of new product families that give successful returns to your organization.
Keeping up with multiple products, development programs, and personnel organization is the key. Charting everything out in a timeline for scheduled events and maintaining product development dashboards for the team is a great way to keep everyone focused. It also provides an essential strategic overview of all the work to enable the prioritization of goals.
These dashboards are living documents that team members can contribute to and build a history of work on a project. They contain a current timeline status, document research, concepts, engineering work, review presentations, and struggles. They help document information for future updates or value engineering of the product later in the product cycle.
